10 Days mtn Rwenzori hike

Trip Overview

This is a 10-day adventurer’s activity in the third highest mountain summit in the continent of Africa. Mountain Rwenzori is located in the western part of Uganda in the Kasese district. Each footstep leads to success as you achieve an unforgettable victory. The mountain is also referred to as the mountain of the moon; the snowcapped Margherita summit stands at a height of 5109m. It also harbors several birds such as the Turacos, and the rare three-horned chameleons. You will use the central circuit to the peak. The trip starts and ends at Entebbe International Airport.

our Day-by-Day Itinerary

On this day, arrive at Entebbe International Airport where our driver guide will happily welcome you to the pearl of Africa. Transfer to your hotel for refreshment. A city tour can be an option if you arrive early, and want some sightseeing and shopping. This day ends with dinner and a sweet slumber at the lodge.

After breakfast, you will depart your hotel accommodation for a transfer to Mount Rwenzori in Kasese district. The journey time is 7-8 hours, with a lunch stopover and stunning views of the lush plantation and African homesteads.  You will arrive at the lodge in Kasese for check-in, dinner, and a nap.

Start this day with breakfast, and after go to the briefing point. Afterward start the hike through a forest cover along the Mubuku River, farmland, and a massive ridge. Chances are that you might watch some primates like the white and black Columbus monkeys; military colored Turacos, and the three-horned chameleon. The hike time takes approximately 6-7 hours.

After breakfast, depart Nyabitaba hut to John matte hut, passing through a trail marked by a bamboo cover, and moose cover. At a distance you will get to watch Mount speak and Stanley. Walk passed the lobelia and groundsel to John matte hut for dinner and a nap. The journey time is 7-8 hours, plus a stopover at Lunch.

Wakeup energized and feeling different. Have breakfast, and depart John matte hut trail   to Bujuku hut through the lower Bigo bog. The hike time is 4-5 hours, with views of mt baker to the south and mount Stanley to the west. You will arrive at the camp and have some acclimatization as you draw closer to the summit victory. Dinner and overnight at Bujuku hut.

After breakfast, depart Bujuku hut to Elena hut through a bog, and traversing the steep slopes, the forest of the Groundsel Gully. The trail will lead to scott-elliot pass to Kitandara lakes. At the evening hours, get to Elena hut for dinner and early nap.

With torches at 2pm, have breakfast and ascend further to the summit. This is a 4-5 hour journey, through three different glaciers, slippery rock, and ice. Some will experience altitude sickness and very cold weather. Get to the summit before sunrise. At the peak, take photos, ask questions and then descend to Elena hut for lunch. The night will be at Kitandara camp.

After breakfast depart Kitandara hut to Guy yeoman camp, crossing the steep headwall, the base of Mt Stanley, and fresh fields. You can also watch Dr Congo in a distance and mount Stanley. The Journey time is 6-7 hours, climaxing with dinner and a nap.

After breakfast, spend about 5 hours, descending to Nyabitaba, through a forest cover, the cliffs of Kichuchu and the muddy paths. After a 7 hour hike, arrive at the trailhead and meet the driver for a transfer to your hotel for dinner and a nap.

After breakfast, checkout of the lodge for a transfer to Entebbe International Airport, with a stopover for Lunch. At the agreed point, our driver will thank you for the adventure and see you off.
