Take part in this unforgettable 8-day Rwanda and DR Congo safari as you explore breathtaking landscapes, vibrant cultures and incredible wildlife encounters. Track the amazing chimpanzees the human close relatives and take part in a forest canopy walk in the treetops of Nyungwe forest, enjoy the fresh waters of Lake Kivu with a boat cruise and come face-to-face with majestic lowland gorillas in Kahuzi-Biega National Park and the gentle giants (mountain gorillas) in Virunga national park.

The tour will end in Kigali city of Rwanda after soaking in the rich history of this amazing city by visiting the Kigali genocide memorial grounds, Kimironko market and more. The safari will leave you with memories since it’s full of adventure, nature, and cultural immersion.

our Day-by-Day Itinerary

Be picked from the agreed point in Kigali Rwanda and take a 5-hour scenic drive to Nyungwe National Park known to a home to different primates including chimpanzees our close relatives. Have an option visit to the ethnographic museum in Huye. Arrive and head to the lodge for your dinner and leisure evening.

The day will kick off immediately after waking up, followed by a cup of coffee or tea and then head to the park offices excited to meet the beautiful human close relatives that are the chimpanzees. Join other visitors in the briefing exercise where you be told about what you require for the best trekking experience, the dos and don’ts, crosschecking the permits, allocation to the group and assignment of the park ranger guide among others.

The trek will begin and while in the forest, meet different creatures including butterflies, squirrels, birds and other primates like olive baboons, red-tailed monkeys, vervet monkeys, black and white colobus monkeys, red colobus monkeys and more. Meeting a community of chimps is a memorable adventure as you spend an hour following their movement behaviors. The overall experience can last for about 4 hours and then return to the lodge for lunch.

Head back to the park office to begin the afternoon on a forest canopy walk where you have an aerial view of the forest while birds sing melodies and the primates like the red-tailed monkeys keep on jumping from one side to another of the canopy. Head back to the lodge for your dinner and night stay.

After breakfast, drive to Karongi town near Lake Kivu a journey taking 2 to 3 hours. Enjoy a scenic boat ride on Lake Kivu as you pass through different fishing villages and islands. Arrive and have an option of visiting tea plantations and later on, enjoy dinner and night’s stay at one of the hotels in Bukavu town.

Have breakfast and head to the park office In Kahuzi-Biega National Park for briefing fing. This will not be so different from the one in Nyungwe national park about chimpanzee tracking, only that, be told about the terrain of this park.

The search will commence under the guidance of the park ranger and Porters, on meeting a family of these gorillas, spend a maximum of an hour knowing some of their daily work such as searching for food, breastfeeding, walking, playing and more. After, head back to the hotel for your meals and leisure in the evening.

Have a leisurely breakfast and head to Virunga National with a boat cruise to Goma town and then a short drive to the park. Virunga National Park is one of a few protected areas in Africa and the world at large that is home to a few endangered mountain gorillas. These unique apes live together with other wild animals such as forest elephants, buffalos, baboons, bushbucks, and other monkeys. On your arrival, have an optional tour of Senkwenkwe gorilla orphanage.

Briefing at the park offices will follow after breakfast and here, know about the guidelines to follow such as the use of the flashlight camera is not allowed, keeping a distance from the gorillas is highly emphasized, don’t eat, drink of smoke in the presence of gorillas and more.

The trek will begin watching other primates but the main focus will be on the gorillas which is the highlight of the day. Spend an hour recording memories on the first sight of a family of gorillas and the Silverback (head of the family) practices its leadership skills. Return to the lodge for lunch followed by an optional tour to the nearby community.

After a leisurely breakfast, head back to the park of Kigali Rwanda a journey that will last for about 6 hour’s drive. The day will include a tour of the King’s Palace Museum in Nyanza to learn about the history of political setups in Rwanda. Arrive and check in the booked hotel in Kigali for a massage or spa.

Have a short city tour where places like the Kimironko market, Kigali genocide memorial center, art and gallery centres and more can be visited. After lunch be dropped off at Kigali International Airport for your departure flight and this marks the end of the safari.
